The MemoryFish project has so far been office-based as we make contact with collection holders, plan events, and ready our workflows. That was until last week, when Claire, Tom and Ted visited Newlyn to discuss the project with two potential contributors.
Both contributors agreed to contribute some wonderful photographs to the MemoryFish project – fabulous images of every conceivable aspect of the fishing industry in and around Newlyn from the 1960s to 1990s from the narrow streets and harbour, right out to events at sea.
We selected a batch of photos from one contributor who is now working to provide captions before we digitise them. The other contributor allowed us to take two albums of photos away with us to digitise before we return to collect captions on a laptop.
When we return the photographs, all contributors will also receive archival-quality scans for use on their computers.
Once we have digitised and returned the photos, contributors will then sign an agreement allowing us to post their photos online. We will post a selection here, as well as the full collections to cornishmemory.com.
The MemoryFish Project is funded by the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG), which receives investment from the European Fisheries Fund and the Marine Management Organisation. The administration for the FLAG is managed by Cornwall Development Company.
